Veterans Rally Point Brings Resources to Military Community – NBC Connecticut
In Norwich, Easterseals prepare to celebrate the completion of what will be a transformative space for the military community: Veterans Rally Point.
It is a one-of-a-kind center of excellence – the only one in the country – for veterans, active duty military personnel and their families.
The military community can come to VRP and find everything from employment services and personnel who can help with resumes to a yoga and meditation space to a fitness center with a stone wall to medical screenings at a designer space to express creativity through arts and crafts to a wardrobe with free clothing and mental health assistance.
The facility offered several programs throughout the pandemic. The entire space is made possible by a grant of $ 2.5 million from the state.
“A lot of times when someone comes back from a deployment, they’re trying to put things together. Relationships can break down, they may not have a job when they return. May have behavioral health issues, PTSD, depression, anxiety. So that gives them a place to come together, ”said (Retired) US Army Brigadier-General Ron Welch of the Easterseals Capital Region and Eastern Connecticut.
Lori Marriott is an Army veterinarian and the first staff member to hire at VRP. She has been able to see people discover the Point’s programs and looks forward to more members of this community coming together to thrive.
“It really warms my heart to see some of the friendships that have grown here over the past two years that we have had here. Anyone who has raised their right hand, anyone who has served this nation, it is our job to be able to give back to make sure they are taken care of for the rest of their lives, ”Marriott said.
The official opening of Veterans Rally Point will take place on November 11, 2021. You can find more about the programs and services here: https://veteransrallypoint.com
