The girls fitness program is coming to the gym
REGISTRATION is open for Golden Plains Shire’s new government-backed initiative, Move Your Way, which aims to empower adolescent girls through social connection and physical activity.
The event will support girls aged 12-15 and will include a free eight-week program starting on Tuesday February 8th.
Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the County was delighted with what the program has in store for young girls.
“With innovative activities guided by contributions from young girls across the County, Move Your Way aims to break down the barriers to physical activity they face, creating a safe and inclusive space for all girls to participate” , did he declare.
The program will include a range of unstructured activities including yoga, roller skating, circus skills, obstacles and Ninja Warrior-style games, as well as non-competitive football and netball.
Activities will be provided by Netball Victoria members and AFL accredited coaches to suit all skill levels.
Attendees can expect healthy snacks and goody bags to be available at each session and a range of prizes up for grabs.
Move Your Way was developed through a feedback survey that took place in November and is funded by a $9,750 grant from VicHealth’s Reimagining Health Grants.
“Evidence shows that 92% of Australian adolescents do not meet physical activity guidelines of 60 minutes a day, and women are disproportionately represented in this data,” said Cr Gamble.
“Move Your Way offers a variety of activities suitable for all skill levels, making it easier for girls to participate in activities they usually don’t have access to or maybe didn’t want to try first.”
