TENNIS SMSU: Mustangs open NSIC game Saturday in Owatonna | News, Sports, Jobs
MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s tennis team (6-1, 0-0 NSIC) opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this Saturday with two games at Owatonna.
SMSU takes on Bemidji State (4-1, 1-1 NSIC) at 10:30 a.m. before taking on Minnesota Crookston (0-2, 0-2 NSIC) at 2:30 p.m. Both matches will take place at West Hills Tennis. & Fitness Center.
Series history
against Minnesota Crookston
• SMSU and UMC meet for the 19th time with SMSU leading 16-2.
• SMSU have won the last nine games with UMC last winning in 2013.
• SMSU has won the last five games by shutout, including 7-0 last season in Grand Forks, ND
Series history
against the State of Bemidji
• SMSU and BSU meet for the 41st time with SMSU leading 28-12.
• SMSU’s 4-3 victory last season in Grand Forks, ND snapped a seven-game losing streak in the series.
SMSU Notes
• SMSU opened the 2022 spring season last Saturday in Rogers, Minnesota, beating Bethel 6-3 and Hamline 7-0.
•Cora Delich and Joana Reis Indio both finished the day with 4-0 records.
• Delich and Roz Oye combined to win two doubles matches, claiming an 8-4 win at No. 3 over Bethel and a 7-5 victory at No. 1 over Hamline.
• Reis Indio and Mja Louisa Harck cruised to an 8-6 victory at No.2 against Bethel, before Reis Indio teamed up with Marisol Palacio for a 6-1 victory at No.2 against Hamline.
•Abbey Ara won both of his singles matches, including No. 6 against Bethel and No. 3 against Hamline.
•Daniela Poulakidas has won twice against Hamline, winning back to back at No. 4 in singles and teaming up with Arga for a win at No. 3 in doubles.
