State-of-the-art Keilor East recreation center completed

Moonee Valley City Council officially opened its new MOVE Recreation Center in Keilor East on Friday October 1, with the building now complete.

The new aquatic and fitness center, built with the support of the state government, includes a 50-meter heated outdoor swimming pool, a 25-meter indoor swimming pool, a swimming pool for learning to swim, a dedicated swimming pool hot water program, spa, steam room and sauna, aquatic play area, café and lounge area, gym, group fitness and spin studios, accessible daycare and family changing rooms.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cam Nation said the opening of the new state-of-the-art center is a milestone and looks forward to members taking advantage of the facilities when restrictions ease.

“We are extremely happy to present this state-of-the-art facility to our community,” said Mayor Nation.

“This is the largest capital works project ever completed by Council and we are delighted to see this impressive recreation center come to life and provide the community with something to enjoy outside of foreclosure.

“The board looks forward to welcoming the community to our new center in accordance with the national roadmap and a community celebration will be planned when it is safe to do so.”

The uncertainty of the pandemic has taken its toll on many Moonee Valley residents and the Nation Mayor says a facility like the Keilor East Leisure Center is of tremendous importance to many as restrictions ease.

“Health, fitness and wellness play a huge role in the daily lives of many members of our community and something that was missed during the lockdown,” said the Nation Mayor.

“I know the community is just as excited as we are to start using this amazing new facility. The launch of our MOVE membership earlier this year means that even more of our residents will have unlimited access to all facilities in Moonee Valley, which is an important part of our commitment to supporting our community to improve and maintain their health and their well-being.

The opening of the outdoor swimming pool is scheduled in accordance with phase B of the National Plan, scheduled for the end of October.
