Missouri teacher charged with multiple sex crimes

KINGSTON, Mo. (AP) — A former teacher and coach from northwest Missouri has been charged with multiple sex crimes.

Online court records show Zachary Douglas, 29, of Utica, is jailed without bail pending a hearing April 7 on 11 felony and seven misdemeanor counts. The charges were filed in two batches over the past two weeks. They include sexual contact with a student, legal sodomy, and the provision of pornographic material.

Court documents allege Douglas, who taught science at Braymer High School and coached football and baseball, sent nude photos and videos to some of his students from July 2021 until last month, WDAF reports.

A student told a forensic investigator that Douglas touched her or attempted to touch her inappropriately on a bus twice in October. The student said Douglas also repeatedly called her into his office, where he touched her inappropriately.

She also said she received several nude photos of Douglas on her Snapchat account, according to court records.

Douglas told the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department that the student put his hand on her inappropriately.

No attorney is listed for him in online court records.
