Iran-Russia-China naval drill proves regional countries can secure peace: Navy chief
TEHRAN – Iran’s navy commander said on Sunday that a recent joint naval exercise conducted by Iran, Russia and China in the northern Indian Ocean proved that countries in the region are capable of bringing peace and quiet to their own people.
“This maneuver sent a regional message, especially to friendly countries and the resistance axis, and reminded [regional countries] that … we can establish security in the region through our own national capabilities and bring peace and tranquility to [our] people,” Admiral Shahram Irani said, according to Press TV.
Highlighting some threatening positions and actions taken by some countries in the region, the commander said: “This [joint] exercise reminded the countries of the region and the sworn enemies of the [Islamic] Revolution that the unipolar world has been dismantled globally.”
Admiral Irani added that the exercise “also proved that countries that act independently within the international system and are security conscious can work together to present a new model in which they will be able to ensuring maritime safety and security, which, in turn, leads to the strengthening of world peace.”
Iran, Russia and China held joint military drills in the northern Indian Ocean last week, with ships from the three countries hitting predetermined targets at sea.
“Together for peace and security” was the theme of the exercise, which covered an area of 17,000 square kilometers and included both Iranian army and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) marines. , as well as Russian and Chinese naval forces.
“Iran is on the main connectivity route and plays an important role in securing the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Irani pointed out that a key feature of the joint exercise was that Iran, Russia and China brought three different military styles to the exercise, which were not similar in terms of performance and equipment, and that each country had taken advantage of its own special military equipment.
The trio managed to achieve their objectives during the exercise, he added while warning against the enemy’s constant efforts to paint an insecure image of the region in pursuit of their own interests.
He added that the enemies do take advantage of the powerful media to achieve their goal and “unfortunately some countries in the region are being deceived by them and are following suit due to the weakness they have in their government structures.”
“If these [regional] States have paid due attention to the potential and capacity of countries in the region instead of following the movement of trans-regional actors and countries [that have come to the region] from afar, then the enemy would be stripped of their last excuses for being present in the area,” the Iranian commander said.
MP says joint exercise sends message to Westerners
Moeinoddin Saeedi, Chabahar’s people’s representative in parliament, also said on Sunday that the joint naval exercise sent a message to Western powers.
Stating that Iran has reached a level of naval power that can be at the center and in command of exercises with major naval powers, the MP said that national security in today’s world is tied to military capabilities, and Iran, while defusing tensions with other countries in the region, insists on strengthening its military components.
Chabahar’s representative in parliament noted that strengthening the navy is important to increase the country’s military capacity. “Iran is on the main connectivity route and plays an important role in securing the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf.”
He further said that joint naval cooperation will increase Iran’s military power.
In addition to taking into account Iran’s many interactions with Russia and China, the parliamentarian said, the government should also be careful to secure the country’s national interests.
Saeedi added: “Holding a joint exercise by Iran, Russia and China sends a message to Western countries that their hegemony in the region has been reduced and that countries and nations in the region are seeking new ways to ensure their lasting security”.
“Cooperation between Iran, China and Russia can lead to the authority of Asian countries and change the balance of power in their favor in the face of American aggression,” the lawmaker noted.
He added that the exercise proves that the three countries have reached a significant level of military relations.
“The effort by Iran, China and Russia is a collective effort to achieve sustainable maritime security in this region and maintain vital waterways to secure the interests of the three countries,” Saeedi said.
The drill, dubbed “2022 Marine Security Belt,” was the third of its kind between the three countries.
“This joint exercise proves that regional countries can establish security in the region through constructive cooperation,” he said.
The MP further said that Iran’s principled policy is that regional countries do not need any foreign country to ensure their security and can ensure their security by relying on national power.
Chabahar’s representative also reminded Western countries that Iran has never started a war in its history.
Saeedi mentioned that Iran has made good progress in the defense industry in recent years, and its participation in international coalitions indicates Iran’s growing position globally.
