Hillsborough County, Florida (October 1, 2021) – The competition kicks off Monday, October 4 for this year’s Active Living Games, which help promote physical and mental fitness through an Olympic-style competition that attracts hundreds of adults 50 and over each year.
The first event is a 1-mile 9:00 am walk / run at Carrollwood Village Park, 4680 W. Village Drive, Tampa, FL 33624. The opening ceremonies will be held at 10:00 am at the same location.
The Active Living Games, run by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, began in the early 1980s, and this year Active life games continue the tradition of offering a variety of competitions for all skill and fitness levels. Events range from track and field to bag toss to pickleball to pool, dominoes and horseshoes. Individual competitions are held at various locations in Hillsborough County.
This year’s Games will be held October 4-12 and are being hosted in partnership with Friends of the County Parks, Tampa Parks and Recreation, and Temple Terrace Parks and Recreation.
Besides being a lot of fun and a great way to stay in shape, the Games serve as a regional qualifier for the Florida Senior Games.
The 2020 Active Living Games have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 Active Living Games will follow CDC and County safety protocols.
