Consumer Reports: Affordable Home Workout Equipment

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF / CONSUMER REPORTS) – So much has changed in the past year, including how and where we train. A lot of people ended up training at home.

When gyms were forced to close by COVID-19, sales of home exercise equipment soared. But not everything out there is really worth your money and your sweat.

“The Peloton was by far the best exercise bike we’ve tested, scoring great in categories such as fit, noise and functionality,” said Bernie Deitrick, Consumer Reports tester.

But with a price tag close to $ 1,500, it’s splurge that could force frugal fitness fanatics to take a time out. Consumer Reports says it’s okay, you can still get a great bike workout without the Peloton bike.

“You can buy a regular exercise bike that’s one-third the cost of a Peloton and just sign up for a Peloton subscription of $ 12.99 per month and use your smartphone or tablet,” Deitrick said.

A more affordable exercise bike that Consumer Reports recommends is the Finer Form indoor exercise bike for $ 500.

For incorporating a bit of strength training into your home workout, adjustable dumbbells are a good option.

“Adjustable dumbbells are very flexible with the help of a lever, dial or pin, you can quickly and easily change the amount of weight you are using,” Deitrick said.

But building muscle doesn’t come cheap: One of Consumer Reports’ best buying options is the $ 350 Core Home Fitness Adjustable Dumbbell Set.

And a key part of any home gym is a yoga mat – they’re good for all kinds of floor exercises.
