    Thomas Mills | Beasley’s Booty

Cheri Beasley’s campaign announced it raised $7.42 million in the second quarter. This is a record in North Carolina. It also signals that Beasley is still in the race and has the support of the Democratic establishment. No one raises that much money without a lot of help.

Tom Campbell | What happens when you mix green, blue and red?

North Carolina is said to be politically a purple state, a mix of red (Republican) and blue (Democrat). Now, we may need to add some green to the mix, as the Green Party has demanded statewide ballot access in the November general election. The row that has erupted over this could change the results of this year’s election, but more importantly, the results in 2024. Let’s try to settle the problem as best we can.

Jean Hood | We can’t all be experts

RALEIGH – I have strong opinions – but not about how to perform brain surgery, write an app, design a golf course or produce a hip-hop album. Maybe you have a strong opinion on one of them, but certainly not on all four.

America under President Joe Biden has been rocked by difficulties. It was very obvious. And of course, the president is blamed for events that cause unease among the mass public, deserved or not. So, it’s no surprise to see President Biden’s numbers mired at levels that reflect the widespread feeling in the country that something is wrong. Still, Biden’s approval ratings do not accurately represent the quality of his performance as president.

Bo Wagner | The Hotel “What Did We Walk Into”

Where and which I will keep to myself; I’m not in the habit of publicly bashing hotels or other businesses. And since almost everyone is understaffed these days, I try to be even more patient and understanding than usual. That said, however, when Dana and I entered the room at 11:45 p.m., hoping for nothing more than a good night’s sleep, my OCD and “Mr. The Fix It genes” immediately hit red alert status, and I knew I’d be up for a while.
