80-year-old fitness fan helps Lanarkshire gymnasium score four years in town

A family gymnasium in Strathaven celebrated its four years in the city with an open house at its new premises.

And their VIP ribbon cutter of the day was Katie Burns, the oldest gym member at Strathaven Fitness and Personal Training, who just turned 80.

Husband and wife team Alan and Lucy Clark hosted the festivities at their new state-of-the-art base on Caldedonia Road on Saturday.

Personal trainer and gym instructor Alan said Lanarkshire Live : “We are thrilled with the participation we had in our open house and celebrated with new faces and many of our members who brought their children to visit.

“We are very grateful to our members, new and old – some of them have been with us from the start in a small gym in 2017.

“They stayed with us through three rooms and a pandemic where we were closed more than we were open, and now in our forever home in this state of the art unit.”

The gym holds small-group workout classes, but members can also work out individually by reserving spaces to use the weights and Alan is also complete with personal training clients.

Wife Lucy is a fully qualified and registered nutritionist, so members benefit from free clinical weight loss services or anthropometric testing.

“We want to take care of our members both mentally and physically and I love helping them achieve their goals,” said Lucy.

“Watching them get fitter, stronger and healthier is the icing on the cake for Alan and me.”

The couple also operate a studio and therapy rooms in a downtown clinic that offers holistic therapies, counseling services, nutritional therapy, yoga and meditation classes.
